Guide To 16mm TMT Bar Price Trends In 2024

16mmTMT Bar Price

One of the integral components of the construction projects is the TMT steel bars. They are used to provide strength, flexibility and durability to the structures. The TMT bars are available in varying dimensions and grades and it is important for builders, architects and engineers to understand this to ensure structural integrity and stability.

The different dimensions of the TMT bars are 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, 25mm and 32mm. The prices of the different types of bars are available online. The 16mm TMT bar price per piece is Rs. 1439.

The word ‘TMT’ stands for Thermo Mechanically Treated. The TMT are manufactured using this process in which the steel bars are heated and cooled rapidly. This gives the bars a hard outer layer and a soft inner core. It gives unique properties to the bars like greater elongation, uniform stress bearing capacity and  unbeatable ductility.

The TMT bars are made from iron ore and pure steel and this gives them unmatched strength. The bars have uniform ridges along their length which provides superior bonding with the concrete. The structures remain unbreakable for generations and the concrete does not get dusted off or crack.

Types of TMT bars

The bars are available in bundles and the number of bars per bundle varies for the different bars. The weight value may vary as per the manufacturer and a particular grade of the bar. The standard length of the bar is 12 m. By understanding the specification of the bars the stakeholder can make informed decisions. The details are as follows:

  • For 8mm bars the weight per bar is 4.6 kg and there are 10 bars in a bundle. The weight of a bundle is 45 - 46 kg.
  • For 10mm bars the weight of each bar is 7.1 kg and there are 7 bars in a bundle. The weight of a bundle is 49 - 50 kg.
  • For 12mm bars the weight of each bar is 10.4 kg and there are 5 bars in  a bundle. The weight of a bundle is 51 - 52 kg.
  • For 16mm bars, the weight of each bar is 18.3 kg and there are 3 bars in a bundle. The weight of a bundle is 54 - 56 kg.

Uses of different TMT bars

The different types of bars are used for various construction projects as follows:

  • The 8mm TMT bars are used in lightweight construction projects like residential buildings. It is lightweight but offers sufficient strength. It is best suited for small structures and load-bearing walls.
  • The 10mm TMT bars are used in medium-sized constructions as they have slightly more strength than 8mm bars. They are used in the construction of bridges and commercial  buildings. The TMT bars provide a balance between flexibility and durability.
  • The 12mm bars are commonly used in reinforced concrete structures like beams, slabs and columns. They are used where higher strength and load-bearing capacity are required.
  • The 16mm bars offer substantial strength and resilience therefore they are used in heavy-duty constructions like high-rise buildings, bridges and industrial structures.
